High wattage, short cook time

An air fryer often draws between 1,500 and 1,800 watts, similar to a space heater. However, because it heats up quickly and cooks food much faster than a standard oven, the total electricity used per meal is quite low.

Air fryer vs. electric oven

While a full-sized electric oven might draw 3,000 watts and require 15 minutes just to preheat, an air fryer reaches cooking temperature in minutes. For small portions, using an air fryer saves both time and electricity.

When an oven is better

If you are cooking a large meal that requires multiple batches in an air fryer, the appliance will be running continuously. In that case, cooking everything at once in a standard oven may be more energy-efficient.
