Low and slow means low cost

A typical slow cooker uses between 150 and 300 watts, depending on the heat setting. Even if you leave it running for 8 hours while you are at work, the total energy consumed is usually less than using an electric oven for a single hour.

Heat settings matter

Cooking on the 'Low' setting draws less wattage over a longer period, while 'High' cooks faster but uses more power. Regardless of the setting, the overall electricity cost remains very small, often just pennies per meal.

Keep the lid closed

Every time you lift the lid, the slow cooker loses heat and requires more energy and time to return to its target temperature. Keep the lid on to maximize efficiency and ensure food cooks safely.
